Mayor's Message - November 12, 2017

Posted on Sunday November 12, 2017

Hello, Bonjour

Well winter arrived with an attitude, nothing like jumping right into things!  Jan and I are in North Bay and it hit -15 with a wicked wind that had our cheeks going from warm, to rosy red to holy smokes I can’t feel them !

Being in North Bay is a weekend of sadness for us as Jan’s Father passed away on Friday.  Our family gathered to say our goodbyes and to reflect back on a life led, that resulted in three wonderful children, 7 terrific Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren whose presence just puts a smile on your face.  As much as it was a weekend of great sadness for our family, our being together, even in the most difficult of times, was very special.  There were many moments of tears, laughter and memories.  Yesterday, as I heard the Remembrance Day Pipers it made me most cognizant of the quality of life that Jan, myself and our families lead. It made me reflect that the lives we lead and that Jan’s Father led, are a result of a great debt of gratitude we owe to all of our soldiers both past and present, including Jan’s two twin uncles who served in World War II.  It is only due to all our veterans and to those whom currently serve our great nation that we get to be who we are and that  we get to live the lives that we do.  Thank so very much to all who have served or are serving today.

The week ahead

At both the County and Town levels the 2018 budgets come up for review by both councils this week.  The County budget currently sits at a 1.5% tax increase while the Town budget sits at a 1.96% increase.  The OPP increase to the town budget is 0.23%.  The link below will send you to the town agenda for this week. https://penetanguishene.civicweb.net/filepro/documents/246634

A startling one third of all deaths, in people over 35, are due to blockage of blood supply to the heart (coronary heart disease). To reduce this mortality, experts are emphasizing prevention and using new protocols to speed intervention, more specific tests for diagnosis and advanced techniques to improve blood supply. The next “OUR HEALTH” event speaks to this issue and is titled  ”Heart Ache”.  They have three very knowledgeable panelists: a cardiologist, a pharmacist, and a heart patient, to bring us up-to-date on the latest and best care for North Simcoe residents with coronary heart disease.  Join in on December 5 at 7:30 PM at the MCC to hear about new directions in cardiac care. Please invite your friends and colleagues. Thanks to their generous sponsors, admission is once again free with registration. Obtain your tickets early to avoid disappointment.  PS this event is the 10th in the “Our Health” series and to date we have heard from over 30 speakers!
