Pesticides and Weeds

Property owners in the Town of Penetanguishene are responsible for destroying noxious weeds on their property that may have an impact on agricultural or horticultural land.

Weed Control Act

The Weed Control Act of Ontario states that all property owners are responsible for destroying noxious weeds on their property unless the weeds or weed seeds are deemed by the Weed Inspector to be far enough away from any land used for agricultural or horticultural purposes that they do not interfere with that use.

The following are designated as noxious weeds in the Town of Penetanguishene:

Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria)

To report a violation of the Weed Control Act, contact the Town's Weed Inspector at 705-549-7453, ext.220.

If a property owner fails to comply with the Act, the Town's Weed Inspector may have the weeds destroyed and charge the costs against the land in taxes.

Clean Yards By-law

The Town of Penetanguishene Clean Yards By-law requires that weeds and grass in excess of 8 inches be cut, trimmed and maintained.
