ROAD MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS
The Town of Penetanguishene Roads Division maintains:
- 100 kms of roadway - 90 kms of paved roadway
- 18.3 kms of sidewalk
- 53 km of sanitary sewer
- 25 km storm sewer
- 400 catch basins
- 692 sanitary sewer access points within the Town
- 812 storm sewer access points within the Town
ROAD DIVISION MANDATE The Road Division maintains approximately and provides the following services: - Asphalt repair/patching/treatment
- Catch basin repairs/cleaning
- Collection/removal/repair of road hazards
- Crack sealing (performed by contractor)
- Curb repairs
- Ditch cleaning/culvert
- Fleet maintenance
- Locates of sewers laterals
- Pot hole repairs
- Road patrol
- Sewer repairs
- Sidewalk repair/replacement/leveling
- Signs repairs/removal
- Snow plowing and sidewalk plowing
- Street sweeping
- Surface drainage
ROAD AND SIDEWALK SNOW PLOWING/CLEARING

Unfortunately, during snow removal operations, the snow removal equipment operators cannot lift their blade every time they come to a driveway approach. Therefore, if possible, homeowners should wait to clear their driveway approaches until the plows have been able to clear the curb lanes.
Practice safe driving and always be aware of the road conditions and adjust your driving according to the road conditions.

Long range planning for construction works and deliveries etc. by contractors and businesses should be considered at this time of year.

ENTRANCE PERMIT
An entrance permit is required for all new entrances to be constructed as well as any alterations being made to existing entrances onto Town of Penetanguishene roads.

OVERLOAD/MOVING PERMIT
The applicant must assume responsibility for all physical damage done to the road through its moving operations. Any repairs that are required must be completed to the sole satisfaction of the Director of Public Works or his designate.
The applicant must be responsible for obtaining approval in writing from any utility which might require relocation or movement such as Powerstream, Bell or Rogers Cable TV, and additionally, must assume all responsibility for physical damage to the utility performed through its operations.
The applicant must additionally be responsible for all brushing or tree cutting required and if the trees that need to be cut are on the right-of-way, must obtain approval from the Road Supervisor. Additionally, if the trees that require cutting are on private property, he must obtain approval from the property owners in writing. Further, it is the applicant’s responsibility to determine whether the required cutting is on private property or municipal right-of-way.
The applicant will be responsible for any necessary road closures and informing all necessary emergency departments of such.
The applicant must obtain an insurance policy in the amount of $5,000,000.00 completely indemnifying the municipality for all damages caused through their operations.
All vehicles, towed vehicles and loads in excess of length, width and height shall be marked in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, Section 109.
The applicant must notify the Ontario Provincial Police prior to any move.

ROADWAY OCCUPATION PERMIT
Roadway Occupation permits are required when any work is to be done on a Town of Penetanguishene road allowance (road or sidewalk).

 | | From early March 1 to April 30, all roads (other than those with exemptions) will be restricted to load limits of 5 tonnes per axle. These restrictions will remain in effect for the above noted time period and will depend on road conditions with signs posted accordingly. |
