Committee of Adjustment

The Penetanguishene Committee of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body of members of the public, appointed by Council, to make decisions on consents (severances) and minor variances. The Committee relies on the planning documents adopted by Council such as the Official Plan and Zoning By-law to guide its decisions.

The Committee meets monthly (as required) at 7:00 pm in the Council Chamber of the Penetanguishene Townhall. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Process

The Committee of Adjustment process takes approximately two months from the time you submit an application until a decision is made and the appeal period expires. If conditions are attached to a decision, the process could take longer. If a decision is appealed to the Ontario Land Tribunal, the decision is not final until it has been approved or denied by the Tribunal.

Hearings

Our Committee of Adjustment reviews the applications in public meetings, or hearings, under the Ontario Planning Act. We are currently holding hearings virtually by teleconference.
