VACANCY: Please use our application form to apply.

Penetanguishene is a community rich in cultural heritage; and it's our responsibility to preserve and protect what we've inherited from the past -- for the benefit of the present and the future.

Part of that responsibility lies in protecting heritage buildings, properties and neighbourhoods that have stood the test of time in our Town, and contributed to our beauty, culture and quality of life.

We are diligent in protecting our cultural heritage resources by:

  • Listing non-designated properties of cultural heritage value or interest on the Municipal Heritage Register.
  • Designating properties under Part IV (individual) or Part V (heritage conservation districts) of the Ontario Heritage Act.
  • Conserving properties during the heritage planning process in accordance with the provincial policy statement.

We commit to aiding property owners in their efforts to help us preserve the past, making Heritage Tax Rebate opportunities available for the purpose of conserving our cultural heritage resources.

The Heritage Committee advises us on matters involving conservation of publicly and privately owned cultural heritage resources within Penetanguishene.

DOORS OPEN SIMCOE COUNTY 2018

The Ontario Heritage Trust works with communities across the province to open the doors, gates and courtyards of their unique and most fascinating cultural sites so you can explore the stories inside. Doors Open Penetanguishene is organized by volunteers from the Penetanguishene Heritage Committee.

This year, 11 municipalities in Simcoe County are participating. Each site offers a unique experience with the opening of historically and architecturally significant sites. Every location tells part of the story of settlement and development of the communities in which they are found.

Doors Open Simcoe County is scheduled for September 29, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participating Sites in Penetanguishene are as follows:

- St. Ann's Jesuit Memorial Church - 28 Robert Street West, Penetanguishene, Ont.
