COVID-19 Temporary Financial Relief Measures

Council approved the following COVID-19 financial relief measures related to 2020 property tax:

  • Penalties/Interest waived for 2 months on 3rd tax installment due on July 31;
  • Penalties/Interest waived for 2 months on final tax installment due on September 30;
  • Penalties on water/wastewater bills that fall due between August 1, 2020 and November 30, 2020 be waived for 60 days.

Based on the current COVID-19 crisis, on March 31, 2020, Council approved the following short-term financial relief measures:

  • Waive current property tax penalties and interest on May 1, 2020, June 1, 2020 & July 1, 2020 for the current 2nd interim instalment only that is due on April 30, 2020;
  • Waive water and wastewater penalties on current bills only that fall due between March 26, 2020 and July 31, 2020;
  • Upon request by account holders, the Town will hold or cancel post-dated cheques or withdraw residents from the Pre-authorized Payment Program. Unless otherwise requested of the Town, post-dated cheques on file and regularly scheduled pre-authorized payments will be processed; and

  • Waive NSF charges for payments returned from March 26, 2020 to July 31, 2020.

As always, residents and businesses can contact to discuss payment arrangements.  Staff continue to investigate longer-term relief measures to benefit residents and businesses. 

In addition, the following temporary financial relief measures have been implemented:

  • free Transit, Transit fees will be reinstated on August 24 ; and
  • Fire Permit and Dog Tag fees have been temporarily until December 31st, 2020
