Zoning By-law Review

The Planning Department has launched a new project to retain the services of a qualified consultant to review and ultimately replace the current Zoning By-law 2000-02. The Plannng Department is primarily administered by two documents; the Official Plan and the Zoning By-law. The Official Plan sets out policy frameworks for decisions on planning related matters. For example, it indicates where housing, commercial, industrial and employment activity will be encouraged to locate and what services will be needed for anticipated growth. The Zoning By-law is a land use document which specifies the type of use adn teh form of development that can occur in different parts of the Town. Any type of proposal that requires a Building Permit must conform to the Official Plan and Zoning By-law.

The Town of Penetanguishene has launched the Zoning By-law Review Project with the intent to conduct extensive community consultation and prepare background reports and studies to replace the existing Zoning By-law and have a new adopted Zoning By-law for the Town in 2020.

Updates to the existing Zoning By-law will be made to implement the new Town of Penetanguishene Official Plan adopted in June 2018 and modified in November of 2018, to increase the clarity, intent and ease of understanding of the Zoning By-law, to update the land use zones and performance standards and to address emerging issues and trends in community planning.
