2026 Municipal and School Board Elections: Notice of Nomination Period

Notice of Nomination for the Towns of Midland, Penetanguishene and Townships of Tay and Tiny

Municipal and School Board Elections will be held on Monday October 26, 2026.  The term of office will be November 15, 2026 to November 14, 2030.

Notice is hereby given that as of Friday, May 1, 2026 nominations may be filed in person, or by an authorized agent during regular business hours, by appointment only, in the Clerk’s Office between May 1, 2026 and August 20, 2026 and on Friday, August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day) between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. 

Nominations must be submitted on the prescribed form and must include endorsement signatures from at least 25 eligible electors, be signed by the candidate and be accompanied by the prescribed nomination filing fee ($200 for Head of Council and $100 for all other offices). The prescribed forms and candidate qualification information will be available by mid-April at any of the Municipal Offices or on their respective websites.

Nomination Papers must be filed with the respective Municipal Clerk of the municipality for which you are seeking office before you can accept contributions or spending money for your campaign.

The offices for which persons may be nominated are:

Town of Midland (575 Dominion Avenue, Midland):

            Mayor – 1 to be elected (at large)

            Deputy Mayor – 1 to be elected (at large)

            Councillor – 7 to be elected (at large)

Town of Penetanguishene (10 Robert Street West, Penetanguishene):

            Mayor – 1 to be elected (at large)

            Deputy Mayor – 1 to be elected (at large)

            Councillor – 5 to be elected (at large)         

Township of Tay (450 Park Street, Victoria Harbour):

            Mayor – 1 to be elected (at large)

            Deputy Mayor – 1 to be elected (at large)

            Councillor – 5 to be elected (at large)

Township of Tiny (130 Balm Beach Road West, Tiny):

            Mayor – 1 to be elected (at large)

            Deputy Mayor – 1 to be elected (at large)

            Councillor – 3 to be elected (at large)

Candidates for the offices of Mayor or Deputy Mayor, please take note that if elected you will also serve as a member of Council for the County of Simcoe.

School Trustees:

  • English Language Public School District No. 17 – 1 to be elected
  • English Language Separate School District No. 44 – 1 to be elected
  • French Language Public School District No. 58 (Une fois ils sont prêts, les annonces seront aussi disponibles en français au bureau municipal.) – 1 to be elected
  • French Language Separate School District No. 64 (Une fois ils sont prêts, les annonces seront aussi disponibles en français au bureau municipal.) – 1 to be elected

2026 Municipal and School Board Elections: Notice of Nomination for School Board Trustees

The School Board Trustee representation determination process has been finalized for the School Board Districts.

Notice is hereby given by the Clerks of the Towns of Midland and Penetanguishene and the Townships of Tay and Tiny that nominations may be filed in the designated Clerk’s Office, by appointment only, starting Monday, May 1, 2026 to August 20, 2026, during regular business hours and on Friday, August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day) between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Nominations must be submitted on the prescribed form to the respective municipal offices noted below, (available at any of the municipal offices), signed by the person being nominated and must be accompanied by the prescribed nomination filing fee of $100.00.

Information as to qualifications for candidates and full particulars of procedures to be followed can be obtained at any of the municipal offices or on their respective websites.

If you plan to seek office in the 2026 municipal elections for School Board Trustee, you must file a Nomination Paper with the designated Clerk before accepting contributions or spending money on your campaign.

The following denotes the School Board District representation schedule for Trustees, and the Municipal Clerk designated to receive Nomination papers for each.

English Language Public School Board:

One Trustee is to be elected for the area including Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny and Tay.

Nomination papers are to be filed with the Clerk of the Town of Midland, 575 Dominion Avenue, Midland.

English Language Separate School Board:

One Trustee is to be elected for the area including Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay and Tiny.

Nomination papers are to be filed with the Clerk of the Town of Midland, 575 Dominion Avenue, Midland.

French Language Public School Board:

One Trustee is to be elected for the area including County of Bruce, County of Grey, County of Simcoe and County of Dufferin.

Nomination papers are to be filed with the Clerk of the City of Barrie, 70 Collier Street, Barrie.

French Language Separate School Board:

One Trustee is to be elected for the area including the County of Simcoe and the District of Muskoka.

Nomination papers are to be filed with the Clerk of the City of Barrie, 70 Collier Street, Barrie.

The Protestant Separate School Board of the Town of Penetanguishene:

Seven Trustees are to be elected for the area of the Town of Penetanguishene only.

Nomination papers are to be filed with the Clerk of the Town of Penetanguishene, 10 Robert Street West, Penetanguishene.
