Penetanguishene – On Hallowe’en, local MPP Jill Dunlop and Mayor Doug Leroux joined the members of the Penetanguishene Curling Club. MPP Jill Dunlop delivered a special treat, by formally congratulating the Club on the work done in the off-season thanks to a $91,600 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) and additional funds from the Town of Penetanguishene that replaced a 46 year old ice plant. The OTF grant was awarded in January of this year.

“I commend the Club for keeping its rich history alive by taking the necessary steps to modernize their ice-making equipment” said Jill Dunlop, MPP for Simcoe North. “This environmental shift towards energy efficiency will ensure that the Club can continue to foster lifelong friendships, promote volunteerism, and support an intergenerational community for years to come”

“The sport of curling is part of Penetanguishene’s history, being played by residents for almost a hundred years”, said Doug Leroux, Mayor of Penetanguishene. “Not only are we proud of the history of the sport but also the Penetanguishene Curling Club and the sense of community it encourages. Being a multicultural community, the club provides a place where the active sport can be experienced by all ages.”

Rob Huson thanked both the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Town of Penetanguishene for the funding that made it possible to offer curling in the Team Howard Community Centre, where World Champions continue to curl. Rob noted the professionalism and support that was always available from the Ontario Trillium Foundation staff.
