Council and Committee of the Whole Highlights: April 9th, 2025 – News Release

- Council approved the direction to settle the official plan appeal, zoning by-law 2022-17 appeal and zoning by-law 2024-43 amendment appeal pertaining to 221 Fox Street (Queen’s Court).
- Council presented a cheque to the Penetanguishene Garden Club for $1,000 from the 2025 Budget - Financial Contribution to Community Organizations.
- Council received a presentation from North Simcoe Community Futures Development Corporation.
- Council received a presentation from the Town’s Environmental Services Supervisor-Wastewater regarding the Annual Report 2024.
- Council approved March 12th Council meeting minutes.
- Council received the memo from the Director of Planning and Community Development regarding the response to resident questions related to the Telecommunications Notice Policy.
- Council approved the Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce Agreement for the missing word? Tourism Information Centre.
- Council approved the Midland Penetanguishene Transit System – Proposed Fare Increases.
- Council approved the Harbour Pointe Phase 3 Security Reduction from $616,898.13 to $355,810.56.
- Council appointed Todd Rogers to the Committee of Adjustment.
- Council appointed Amilynn Sharpe and Judith Holland to the Trails Committee.
- Council appointed Amilynn Sharpe to the Wellness and Accessibility Committee.
- Council directed staff to provide feedback to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding the proposed strong Mayor Powers Regulation and report back to Council at a future meeting with the impacts.
- Council approved the Committee of the Whole Report from March 12th, 2025.
- Council passed 3 by-laws:
- 2025-11 Appoint Municipal Law Enforcement Officers (Summer Staff – By-law Department).
- 2025-12 Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce Agreement.
- 2025-13 To Amend the Fees and Charges By-law.
Committee of the Whole (Committee) facilitates the decision-making process of Council. The Committee is comprised of all members of Council who fully participate in debate and forward recommendations to Council for final decision. Items that are discussed in Committee of the Whole are to be ratified at Council’s next meeting.

- Committee received the Museum and Heritage Committee Meeting Minutes – February 12, 2025.
- Committee received the Summer Cultural Festival Ad Hoc Committee Minutes – January 14, 2025.
PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
- Committee received the Committee of Adjustment Minutes – January 27, 2025.
- Committee received the Planning and Community Development 1st Quarter Summary.
- Committee received the By-law Monthly Activity report for March for information.
- Committee approved the Heritage Tax rebates for:
- W.R. Benson Home, 69 Poyntz Street ($1,741.88)
- J.T. Payette House, 33 Robert Street West ($2,244.95)
- A.A. Thompson House, 14 Water Street (capped at $380.00)
- Council approved a sign amendment for 7 Harriet Street (Georgian Bay Senior Residence).
FINANCE AND CORPORATE SERVICES
- Committee received the 2024 Water and Wastewater Write-Offs report.
- Committee received the 2024 Year-End Property Taxes Receivable report.
- Committee directed staff to support the letter from Tay Township related to the Culture Alliance Dissolution.
- Committee approved the 2025 Tax Rates, Levies and Budget Estimates.
