Main Street Reconstruction Update - November 2, 2018

Main Street Reconstruction Update - November 2, 2018

It has been another milestone week for the Main Street Reconstruction project as the final section of top course asphalt was placed Thursday evening.  This now means that our Main Street is a drivable surface from Thompson Road all the way to Wolfe Street.    JB Enterprises Ltd. has completed the following work for the week ending November 2, 2018:

  • Completed Base Asphalt including the Thompsons Road intersection,
  • Topsoil Placed all areas in Preparation for Sod and Plantings,
  • Paving Stones in the Poyntz Street Intersection Completed,
  • Boulevard Stones from Jeffery Street to Edward Street Ongoing;
  • Top Course Asphalt Completed in All Areas.

The following items are scheduled to be completed for the week of November 5, 2018 to November 9, 2018:

  • Set up temporary traffic detours and diversions to allow for line painting to occur, which will include parking stalls, crosswalks, centerlines, lane arrows and stop bars.
  • Continue boulevard stones from Jeffery Street Heading south,
  • Continue site furnishings and the stone veneer on the Streetscaping aspects of the project,
  • Continue restoration of public spaces including the placement of  asphalt in driveways and placing Sod in all required areas;
  • Restore Traffic Signal Lights to Operational Condition.

The coordination and set up of the traffic lights will be occurring today (Friday November 2, 2018) with all necessary parties on site.  Once the traffic signals have been approved and proper operation confirmed the intersections will then be controlled by the traffic lights.  This is an adjustment as we have become use to the temporary stop signs so please proceed with caution until everyone is familiar with the new intersections.

As previously mentioned, the top course asphalt is now in place and the interlocking stone in the intersections is in place but we need to remember that our Main Street is still a construction zone.  As such, JB Enterprises’ Staff and the Town ask that you proceed on the Main Street with speeds and an awareness that would be expected in a typical construction zone.  Be courteous to pedestrians that are trying to cross the street and put safety first and foremost at all times.  Detours may still be put in place while finishing works are being completed.

Thank you to everyone for your continued patience and understanding throughout the project.  Should you have any questions or concerns please contact the Public Works Department at 549-7992 or visit the Town of Penetanguishene website at www.penetanguishene.ca.
