Main Street Reconstruction Update - October 5, 2018

Main Street Reconstruction Update - October 5, 2018

It can be confidently stated that JB Enterprises has completed the underground works as required for the Main Street Reconstruction project.  This means that it is simply a matter of time until we have asphalt down the Main Street corridor from one end to the other.  A huge accomplishment indeed! JB Enterprises Ltd. has completed the following work for the week ending October 5, 2018:

  • The Sanitary Forcemain tie in was completed at O’l Dubeau Road;
  • Removal of the existing sanitary structures from Poyntz Street to Thompsons Road;
  • Completed CCTV Inspection of the sanitary network to Thompsons Road;
  • Excavated to subgrade and placed granulars in the Thompsons Road intersection for asphalt placement;
  • Boulevard stone placement from Robert Street to Jeffery Street is on-going;
  • Completed Water Service tie overs and de-commissioning of the temporary Water Main;
  • Completed Curbs from Robert Street to North of O’l Dubeau Road; and,
  • Completed electrical duct works at the Main Street and Thompsons Road intersection.

 The following items are scheduled to be completed for the week of October 9, 2018 to October 12, 2018:

  • Reduce the Thompsons Road intersection to a single lane of traffic controlled by Flag Persons on an as needed basis;
  • Complete granular placement in the Thompsons Road intersection;
  • Continue placing boulevard stones between the curb and the sidewalk from Robert Street Heading south;
  • Install the Poyntz Street intersection concrete base for the paving stones;
  • Placement of Granular “A” from Edward Street to Thompsons Road;
  • Continue placement of curbs and sidewalk from North of O’l Dubeau Road to Thompsons Road; and,
  • Begin installing paving stones at the Poyntz Street Intersection once the concrete base is in place.
  • CCTV Inspection of the Sanitary works installed from Jeffery Street to Thompsons Road.

With the bulk of the work completed in the Thompson Road intersection, the digital display signs will be removed from the site this week, but that doesn’t mean everything will be back to normal.  There are still surface works that need to be accomplished and traffic signalization that needs to be installed so the intersection will be reduced to a single lane controlled by flag persons as required.  Please be patient if you happen to be passing through the intersection during one of the lane reduction periods as they are only temporary and as required moving forward.

As many are aware, there were multiple attempts this week to install the interlocking pavers in the Robert Street intersection while keeping traffic moving in all directions, but this approach did not provide the results required.  For this reason, the intersection was closed Thursday morning and will be re-opened by the end of the work day on Friday for the long weekend.  This should be last of the intersection work at Robert Street.

As a final reminder, when you are using the detour routes as posted, please be sure to obey the traffic signs that are in place.  Although you may be in a hurry, a Stop sign is still a Stop sign and we truly want everyone to be safe while our Main Street Reconstruction projects approaches the final stages.

 A project of this magnitude does not evolve without the understanding, patience and continued support of the residents, businesses and visitors so thank you very much.  Should you have any questions or concerns please contact the Public Works Department at 549-7992 or visit the Town of Penetanguishene website at www.penetanguishene.ca.
