Notice of Comprehensive Zoning By-law 2022-17 in Effect

The Town of Penetanguishene would like to advise residents that the Town’s new Comprehensive Zoning By-law 2022-17 is now in effect. The new Zoning By-law applies to all properties in Penetanguishene and repeals the former Zoning By-law 2000-02 in its entirety. The By-law is now updated to respond to Provincial policies, to address emerging land use trends, to establish more contemporary zoning standards, as well as to provide a more user-friendly document.

The Zoning By-law divides all land in the Town into various Zones (e.g., Residential, Rural, Commercial, Industrial, etc.) and determines the type of land uses that can occur as well as specific parameters for their development (i.e. lot coverage, yard setbacks, maximum building height, minimum parking standards, etc.).

For residential property owners, the By-law provides standards for constructing decks, sheds, garages, or other structures you might have on your property. For commercial or industrial property owners, the by-law provides land use standards for new buildings as well as provisions for parking and loading areas, and landscaped areas, among others.
