Notice of Public Meeting on Proposed Changes to Building Permit, Planning & By-Law Fees

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Penetanguishene will hold a Public Meeting on Wednesday July 8, 2026, at the time listed below in order to consider proposed amendments to the Town’s Building By-law 2023-73 and the Planning and By-law Fees under the Town’s Fees and Charges By-law 2026-01.

PROPOSED CHANGES TO BUILDING PERMIT FEES – In an to better align permit fees with municipal comparators the Town has initiated a review of the building permit fees under Section 7(b) of the Building Code Act. Based on the findings, the Town of Penetanguishene is proposing a new 11% surcharge to ALL Building Permit Fees to enable a stable reserve fund. Information will be provided at the meetings on the estimated costs of enforcing and administering the Building Code Act, the amount of the proposed fee(s) and the rationale for changing (and/or imposing) fees.


PROPOSED CHANGES TO PLANNING AND BY-LAW FEES – Based on a service review initiated by the Town, an amendment to Schedule A-5 of the Planning and By-law sections of the fees and charges by-law are being proposed. The review outlines increased fees based on full cost recovery. The proposed 2026 updates to the 2026 Fees and Charges By-law are available online through the May 13, 2026, Committee of the Whole agenda at the following link: Town of Penetanguishene - Meeting Information.


ANY PERSON may attend the public meeting and/or make written or verbal representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed fees.
