Penetanguishene Council Supports the Protestant Separate School Board

Date: November 9, 2020

(Penetanguishene) – On October 14, 2020, Council passed a resolution in support of the Protestant Separate School Board in their appeal to the Province of Ontario and Ministry of Education. This resolution was followed by a letter addressed to the MPP Simcoe North Jill Dunlop and the Ministry of Education which outlined the Towns support.

Council and staff of the Town of Penetanguishene support the Protestant Separate School Board in their effort to facilitate securing additional space for the growing demands that Burkevale School faces. “Addressing the growing population, which has fostered higher enrollment numbers in our local schools is an issue that Council will work towards solving to ensure that faculty are able to teach and support our future generation with limited barriers” says Mayor Leroux.

“We would like to see Burkevale continue to grow to meet the needs of our community and we will support our local Protestant Separate School Board in conversations with the Provincial Government” says Chief Administrative Officer Jeff Lees.

Providing an adequate environment for students holds enormous significance in the ability for students to learn. In working with the Protestant Separate School Board, we are hoping to assist in providing a better environment for our local students as it is evident that the current conditions do not meet the needs or requirements for teachers or students.
