Penetanguishene Lowers Flags in Honour of Past Council Member, Debbie Levy
The Town of Penetanguishene is deeply saddened by the passing of former Councillor Debbie Levy following a battle with cancer.
Debbie served the community she loved for 15 years on Penetanguishene Town Council, first from 2000 to 2003 and again from 2010 to 2022. Throughout her years of service, she was known for her dedication to residents and her unwavering commitment to making Penetanguishene a welcoming and vibrant place to live.
Beyond her role in municipal government, Debbie was a familiar and cherished presence in the downtown core as the owner of The Reading Room, which served as a gathering place for community members.
Mayor Doug Rawson shared his condolences on behalf of Council, staff and the community:
"Debbie cared deeply about Penetanguishene and the people who call it home. She brought passion, integrity, and heart to her years of service on Council, and she was someone who always wanted the very best for our community. Many residents knew Debbie not only as a Councillor, but a welcoming face behind The Reading Room. Her contributions to this town will not be forgotten, and her absence will be felt by many. On behalf of Council and the Town of Penetanguishene, I extend my sincere condolences to Debbie's family and loved ones during this difficult time."
The Town of Penetanguishene extends its heartfelt sympathies to Debbie's family, friends, former colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched. Flags at Townhall have been lowered to half-mast.
