Town of Penetanguishene welcomes vaccination site at local Arena

February 26, 2021 – The approval and rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in our region provides an optimistic picture for the future. The Town of Penetanguishene in partnership with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) and the other North Simcoe Municipalities is proud to offer a vaccination clinic at the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre (Arena).

“Having a vaccination site in our community is an important milestone in our regions fight against COVID-19,” says Mayor Leroux. “As we wait for all of our residents to be eligible, it remains vital that we continue to practice the public health actions and stay home when possible. On behalf of the Town, I sincerely thank everyone for all of their hard work and contributions towards this significant achievement.”

Vaccination sites will be located throughout the SMDHU area including Barrie/Innisfil, South Simcoe, North Simcoe, the Couchiching area, South Georgian Bay and Muskoka. Specific clinic locations can be found here. Those who are eligible to receive their COVID-19 vaccination at community clinics opening across our region can now book their appointment online through the SMDHU website.

Eligible Community Members:

Adults 85 years of age and older; Indigenous adults 55 years and older as well as their adult household members; adult recipients of chronic home care; and very high priority frontline healthcare workers (as defined in the provincial priority guideline).

The tentative start date for the Arena vaccination site is March 16th, 2021. The Town of Penetanguishene location is one of (13) thirteen in our region. SMDHU will release a final schedule for all locations in the coming weeks, which will be shared through our Town of Penetanguishene channels.

Those eligible can book their appointment online at the health unit’s website at www.smdhu.org or have a family member or friend book for them. For those without access to a computer or internet access, appointments can be booked by calling the health unit at 1-877-721-7520. Proof of eligibility is required and anyone who books appointments and is not eligible will be turned away. Please note that clinics are not open for walk ins.
