We All Win: Penetanguishene Encourages Diversity in the upcoming 2022 Municipal Election

August 2, 2022 - The next municipal election will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022. Elected municipal leaders play a vital role in making sure that communities are healthy and successful, socially, and economically. Councils shape priorities, ensure accountability to the public, and represent the people who elect them. They provide a democratic forum for diverse perspectives and experiences to be heard, so that better decisions are made, and good governance is supported. When we have a diversity of genders and identities, ethnicities, sexual orientations, ages, races, and abilities at municipal council, we can create more inclusive and sustainable communities.

Local Municipal government gives people in the community a chance to make a real and positive impact in Penetanguishene. “We recognize that more inclusive staff and Council will help create a stronger, more equitable community,” said Town Clerk, Stacey Cooper. “With the help of our newly appointed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee we are working toward recognizing and appreciating that Penetanguishene is home to an increasingly diverse population. We continue to strive to be equitable and inclusive in all we do, including our services, policies, and decision-making for everyone in our community.”

Municipal governments touch the day-to-day life of every resident - every day.
