Your Voice Matters: Guide the Future of Tree Planting in Penetanguishene
Penetanguishene, ON – March 4, 2026 – The Town of Penetanguishene is inviting residents to help shape the future of the community’s urban forest through a newly launched Tree Planting Strategy Survey and Interactive Tree Planting Priority Map. These tools are part of the Town’s development of a comprehensive Tree Planting Strategy, created in partnership with environmental specialists from SLR Consulting (Canada) Ltd.
The Strategy will guide planting efforts on both public and private lands, with the goal of increasing tree canopy cover, strengthening environmental resilience, and enhancing the community’s natural landscapes. The initiative is funded through the Town’s Tree Compensation Reserve, supported by revenues from development applications and tree removal permits, ensuring sustainable long-term investment in Penetanguishene’s green spaces.
Why a Tree Planting Strategy Matters
Trees play a vital role in creating a healthy, resilient, and vibrant community. Increasing the Town’s tree canopy helps improve air and water quality, reduce soil erosion and stormwater runoff, provide shade and cooling during extreme heat, support local wildlife habitats, and enhance neighbourhood character and property values. By establishing a clear, coordinated Tree Planting Strategy now, the Town can make informed decisions that maximize environmental benefits, strengthen longterm sustainability, and ensure Penetanguishene remains a green and welcoming place for generations to come.

- Interactive Map: Drop a pin to highlight locations where you feel more trees are needed.
