Council Highlights - April 22, 2020

To ensure social distancing provisions are maintained, this meeting was only available for viewing live on Rogers TV with staff and members of Council participating in the meeting electronically.  The meeting is posted on our YouTube Channel for viewing the day after the meeting. Council

  • Council approved entering into an agreement for Gas Tax funding for the Transit system.
  • Council received a verbal report from the Chief Administrative Officer regarding the municipality’s COVID-19 situation update.
  • Council approved the deferral of some of the scheduled Capital Projects that were slated for 2020 in relation to the COVID-19 impacts and regulations and staff will continue to monitor the effects of COVID-19 as it pertains to capital projects timing.
  • Council passed two by-laws including an agreement for janitorial services with CA Sellers Cleaning Services Ltd. and the funding agreement with the Ministry of Transportation for Gas Tax funding to be used for Transit. 

Committee of the Whole (items that were discussed to be ratified at Council’s next meeting):

  • Committee received the Wastewater Pollution Control Plants Annual Report for 2019.
  • Committee received an update regarding the Feasibility Study for the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre.
  • Committee received a post-event report for Winterama 2020.
  • Committee approved proceeding with the arena concession stand agreement with a by-law to be presented at a future Council meeting.
  • Committee received for information the proposed changes to the Development Charges and Community Benefit Charges as well as the quarterly planning and community development department update.
  • Committee approved staff proceeding with bringing forward recommendations on amendments to the Graffiti section of the Property Standards By-law.
  • Committee approved staff proceeding with a road allowance land sale and Deeming By-law for Lots 51 & 52 Plan 1521.
  • Committee received the 2019 Property Tax Receivables report and Utility Bill Reduction report for information.
  • Committee reviewed the COVID-19 Preliminary Overview of Potential Impacts and requested that staff report back with a review of staff work plans and operations in light of COVID-19.
  • Committee approved the 2019 Capital Carry Forward request and 2019 Draft Capital Taxation surplus.
