Council Highlights - February 12, 2020

Council Highlights provide a brief overview of noteworthy decisions and presentations made at Town of Penetanguishene Council meetings. Detailed agendas and minutes from the meetings are available on our website or you can view our livestream for additional details. Meetings take place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted.​

Special Council

  • Council met in Closed Session (private) to discuss a Main Street reconstruction legal matter and union negotiation strategies.  Council directed staff to proceed as directed related to the union negotiations.

Council

  • Council ratified the decisions from the Committee of the Whole meeting on January 22, 2020.
  • Council approved the recommended motion from the Police Services Board regarding advocating on changes to the Community Safety and Policing Act 2019.
  • Council approved staff proceeding with applying for the County of Simcoe Tourism, Culture and Sport Grant for the All Things Canadian Festival.
  • Council endorsed the Draft Community Improvement Plan for Downtown for public release.  A Public Open House is planned for Wednesday, March 4 at 6:00 p.m., with a presentation at 6:30 p.m. in the Lounge of the Penetanguishene Memorial Community Centre.
  • Council passed five by-laws including agreements with Greenland Consulting Engineers, North Simcoe Girls Hockey Association, Penetanguishene Junior “C” Hockey Club Inc., Penetanguishene Minor Hockey Association, and Penetanguishene Skating Club.

Committee of the Whole (items that were discussed to be ratified at Council’s next meeting):

  • Committee approved staff proceeding with awarding the snow plow tender to Currie Truck Centre.
  • Committee approved the proposed 5-year Preventative Road Maintenance Plan.
  • Committee received an update about the renovations to the arena kitchen.
  • Committee received the monthly comparative report for 2019 animal control for information.
  • Committee received correspondence to the LPAT regarding Queens Court Developments Ltd. applications for subdivision and zoning by-law amendment;
  • Committee received the written LPAT decision on the Official Plan for information.
  • Committee received the minutes from the November 12th meeting of the Main Street Art Committee.
  • Committee received a report on minor proposed changes to the parking in the Downtown core and direction was given to staff to investigate permit parking, Peel Street parking configuration and further parking supply/demand counts.
  • Committee approved the draft Plan of Subdivision and the implementing Zoning By-law Amendment for the Bay Moorings redevelopment.
  • Committee approved the proposed updates to the Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Committee approved the request for reduction of a large water consumption charge.
  • Committee approved staff proceeding with the joint North Simcoe Services Review with Midland, Tiny and Tay with funding provided by the Municipal Modernization Fund from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
